LET'S GET INTO THE DETAILS

WHY ARE WE A B CORP?

As a B Corp, we're proud to use business as a force for good. We know consumers are increasingly looking for more than just a great product – they want to support brands that align with their values and make a positive impact on the world. By choosing Miyoko's, you can feel confident that you're supporting a company committed to creating a more equitable and sustainable future. Our B Corp certification provides an extra layer of assurance that we're upholding high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.

WHAT IS A B CORPORATION?

Think of it as a seal of approval for for-profit companies that prioritize people, the planet, and profit.

HOW DO YOU GET CERTIFIED AND WHAT DID WE SCORE?

B Corp certification isn't just handed out to any company. It's a rigorous process that evaluates a company's impact on its workers, customers, community, and the environment. The B Impact Assessment includes over 200 questions that are based on independent, third-party standards. It is regularly updated to reflect changes in best practices and new research on social and environmental impact.

To become certified, companies are required to reach a minimum score of 80 out of 200. At Miyoko's, we don’t settle for just the minimum. Since our first certification in 2018, we have improved our score to 94.6!

WHAT IMPROVEMENTS DID WE MAKE?

We're thrilled to report that we've made improvements across all four stakeholder groups. Our biggest gains were in the workers and environment impact areas, where we've increased by 4.9 and 5.8 points, respectively. We take care of our employees and are committed to improving their lives and wellbeing. Our employees are the backbone of our business, and their satisfaction is inextricably linked to the success of our company. We've also worked hard to minimize our impact on the planet by improving our management practices. As a company, we recognize that we have a responsibility to protect the planet, and we're committed to doing our part.

It's not just our employees and the environment that we care about; we also care deeply about our customers and the communities in which we operate. That's why we're thrilled to see improvements in both the customers (+3.4) and community (+0.5) impact areas. We're committed to providing the highest quality products and services while also being transparent, ethical, and responsive to customer feedback. Similarly, we're always looking for ways to engage with and support the communities in which we operate.

WHAT ARE IBMs?

Impact Business Models (IBMs) are special recognition categories that reward companies that go above and beyond to create positive impact. These are rare and apply only to a small number of companies. We’ve earned recognition in three IBM categories: Mission Lock, Resource Conservation, and Toxin Reduction/Remediation. At Miyoko's Creamery, we take pride in our IBM recognitions, which acknowledge our commitment to decision-making that considers all stakeholders, waste reduction, and the use of less toxic materials.

WHY IS B CORP CERTIFICATION IMPORTANT?

Unlike other sustainability certifications that may focus on one area of a company's operations, B Corp certification takes a holistic approach to consider environmental and social impact. Companies must meet high standards of performance across all areas, rather than just complying with basic regulations. Lastly, what’s truly unique about B Corp is the community of businesses B Lab brings together that are all committed to using collective power to create positive change in the world.

WHAT'S NEXT?

While we take time to celebrate our achievements, we also recognize that there is still much work to be done. Our journey to becoming a truly responsible and sustainable business is an ongoing process, and we aim to push our score into the 100s and beyond in the future.
